My computer seems to have contracted spyware, specifically WinFixer. I have run Adaware, SpyBot S&D, AVG, and PestPatrol and have had no luck in getting rid of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

It started last night, sudden pop ups from Spyware Protection. I got worried so I hit activate not realizing how much it cost. I can’t afford it, but the pop ups continue. One of them actually makes a screeching noise. And for no reason that I can see, at the same time my scroll pad has stopped working. I turned off and unplugged my laptop last night and it’s still doing it. What should I do? Please help!

I have been using both PCs and Macs for many years now, and have always made sure to run both spyware and virus protection programs on the PCs I use running XP.
On my macs, I have never thought about this and I have never had any kind of problems related to either of these.
I’m not trying to start a debate here, but this just seems to be how it is. Why are Apple computers not plagued by this? Is Vista helping the problem?
