i gave up my belief after accepting evolution and learning about osiris and other aincient gods whose origins are also middle eastern and whose stories are remarkably similar to the gospels of jesus
@jaygee514 the core of this idea is not about whether this virus is harmful or not. The main argument is that a religion spreads like a virus, and a religions changes like a virus in order to spread more effectively. This also applies to all ideas. So think carefully before letting out an idea, you might infect somebody with it ;)
Fight fire with fire. People infected with a god virus need only be infected with the “Science and Reason” virus, and they might become atheists :)
You see, all ideas are viruses. You got an idea, you talk about it to people, some of them get infected by the idea and continue spreading it around in their talks. This is called social evolution. Nothing new in my perspective.

@cripwalkerss You might have heard this elsewhere, but if the billion-in-one chance that your particular belief is right, I will say that I used the brain that I was given to evaluate the world around me to best give me an understanding or reality and it pointed in the opposite direction of the existence of a god. I strive to be a good person, and if your god (so petty he *only* cares about faith in him) still wants to damn me, then I will know that he was not worthy of worship.
Dr. Ray sounds a little confused on his views of religion. I don’t understand why he would compare religion to a virus (which is usually harmful to those it infects), yet say we should not help people who are religious, because it sounds like his second idea suggests that religion isn’t necessarily a bad thing (just that it’s not for everyone). I think he should find a better metaphor that sums up his views.
Lol ok so Dr. Ray is an atheist, but he sounds so much like a typical Jesus freak lol.
My ex-boyfriend was a Christian. He told me a story of how before he found God his life was pretty much in the shit hole. Then as soon as he found the Church everything was great. After we broke up I asked him if he thought that there could be a chance that if he would have found the self-confidence and friends else-where, did he think that all the “wonderful things” (including meeting me) would have happened anyway without “God guiding him”. He said “Absolutely not”. Do you think that’s wise?
@cripwalkerss “I know he is real period” That about sums it all up. You just believe and have no hold about what reality has to say about it. Furthermore, you don’t even have an appropiate logical path or piece of evidence you can at least adjudicate your empty beliefs to. It’s sad how easily people delude themselves in wishful thinking.

You jump from 1 t o2 without any logic: A common error when religious people try to think: it’s called induction gone wrong. EVEN if 2 were true, who are you to say a divine being X created something… or everything for that matter? It could be something, not a divine being at all.

@cripwalkerss I’m not trying to convert you or anything. All i try to do is make you think about these beliefs by exposing the absurdities and inconsistencies i find in such beliefs without having realized beforehand you didn’t get into it by logic.
Again, if this world was fine tuned for us, we wouldn’t have so many diseases and natural crap killing people everyday. Now, if you want to go ahead and start an ad hominem exchange, i’m afraid i won’t follow that game.

@cripwalkerss Fine, go ahead and keep believing bs without evidence if that makes you happy. It’s sad you believe crap with available evidence to the contrary, though (denying evolution, that is). I guess the guy in the video was right. Trying to argue rationally with someone about something they didn’t even need reason to get into in the first place is futile.
Btw, the world isn’t perfectly tuned for us. If it was, we wouldn’t have any sort of climatic problems or diseases killing people.

This screen name merely reflects my musical taste, nothing else. If you want to keep giving credit for your own achievements to an imaginary friend, be my guest. It just find it terribly sad that people aren’t even willing to think about how absurd it is for fear of their own illusions though.
